Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
